Co-Teacher

Courage Schools, Inc. seeks a culturally competent and responsive Co-Teacher who has a passion for working with children with language-based learning differences. The Co-Teacher is primarily responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in ways that are helpful with work and activities inside and outside of the classroom. The Co-Teacher is expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, parents, staff, and School issues. This is a full-time position with benefits. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 3:00 pm. Salary is dependent upon education, training, and experience and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher to collaboratively plan lessons in all subject areas with staff as necessary to do so effectively
  • Set up for the day’s activities
  • Lead class when the Lead Teacher is absent and/or involved in collaborative planning or meetings
  • Work with students in whole groups, small groups, or individually during classroom learning experiences, and encourage individual students as prescribed by the Lead Teacher
  • Perform administrative/class-related duties to support the classroom, including but not limited to: making copies and grading papers, creating bulletin boards, and other duties as determined by the Lead Teacher
  • Assist students with time management and organizational skills as directed by the Lead Teacher
  • Work in collaboration with support personnel (Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and STEAM teacher)
  • Attend all grade-level, departmental, and required School meetings, as well as organize and attend Parent Night
  • Perform occasional duties, as requested by the Head of School which may include, but are not limited to, lunch duty and recess duties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Training in or familiarity with a structured literacy approach to learning (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, etc.) preferred

Successful candidates will have a passion for working with elementary school-aged children with learning differences, experience with and commitment to collaborative teaching, and an unwavering commitment to students.
