Director of Academics

Courage Schools, Inc. seeks an experienced, culturally competent, and culturally responsive Director of Academics to manage the curriculum development, learning objectives, assessment, and academic standards of Courage Schools, Inc. This role reports to the Head of School and works closely with faculty to coordinate curriculum throughout the school, review and select texts and learning materials, and communicate with parents. The Director of Academics also provides professional development opportunities and instructional resources for faculty. This is a 12-month (year-round) role that includes both teaching and administrative duties.

Responsibilities:
● Curriculum Leadership:
○ Provide strategic direction for the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of our K-7 curriculum.
○ Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure alignment with our school’s mission and educational philosophy.
○ Oversee the selection and adoption of high-quality instructional materials and resources.
○ Lead curriculum review and revision processes to ensure continuous improvement.
● Instructional Leadership:
○ Support and guide faculty in developing effective teaching practices and strategies.
○ Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty growth and excellence.
○ Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to enhance teaching and learning.
○ Foster a collaborative and data-driven approach to instruction.
● Assessment and Evaluation:
○ Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment system to monitor student learning and program effectiveness.
○ Analyze data to identify areas of strength and weakness, and inform instructional decisions.
○ Collaborate with faculty to develop meaningful assessment practices.
● Leadership and Management:
○ Provide leadership to faculty and staff and curriculum committees.
○ Represent the academic program to the Board of Directors, parents, and the community.
○ Stay current on educational trends and best practices.

The above list is not exhaustive and the Director of Academics may perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an independent school setting.
● Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
● Strong instructional leadership skills, including the ability to provide effective coaching and feedback to faculty.
● Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
● Passion for education and a commitment to student success.
● Training in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell) preferred.

This is a full-time position (Monday through Friday; 7:30 am – 4:00 pm) with benefits.
Salary is dependent upon education, training, and experience and is commensurate
with other independent schools in the area. Courage Schools, Inc. offers the
