Lead Classroom Teacher

Courage Schools, Inc. seeks a culturally competent and culturally responsive faculty member who has a passion for working with children and is always seeking new ways to meet the needs of their students.  The Lead Classroom Teacher is responsible for leading work and activities inside and outside of the classroom and directing the duties of Co-Teachers and/or Associate Teachers in helping to manage the classroom.  All teachers are expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, parents, staff, and School issues.  All employees are expected to support the mission and value statements of Courage and contribute to the overall life of the School. 

This is a full-time position (Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM) with benefits.  Salary is dependent upon education, training, and experience and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area. 

EDUCATION/TRAINING 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent. Masters degree preferred. 
  • Training in structured literacy (e.g. Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, etc.) 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE  

  • 5 years of experience working with Elementary or Middle School-aged children with learning differences; specifically grades K-7 
  • Intermediate-level of experience with and commitment to collaborative teaching 
  • Proficiency with multiple technologies, such as:  MS Office, Internet, Google, Email. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Collaboratively plan lessons in all subject areas including language arts, math, science, and social studies and with staff as necessary to do so effectively 
  • Work in collaboration with support personnel (Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and STEAM teacher) 
  • Differentiate by administering formative assessments that inform lesson planning so that each child’s needs are being met  
  • Provide timely and consistent feedback to parents regarding student progress 
  • Provides timely feedback to outside practitioners who are working with the student and family. 
  • Develop relationships with students that support a restorative practices approach to classroom management 
  • Lead students to classrooms and back to homeroom after class as needed Direct Co-Teachers and/or Associate Teachers in assisting, instructing, and encourages individual students as necessary
  • Lead students on School field trips 
  • Attend all grade-level, departmental and required School meetings, as well as organize and attend Parent Night. 
  • Adheres to all School policies, including safety and emergency procedures.

  • Comforting communication style when engaging parents while discussing the students’ performance.
