School Guidance Counselor

Courage Schools, Inc. seeks a culturally competent and culturally responsive School Guidance Counselor who has a passion for working with children and is always seeking new ways to meet the needs of their students. The School Guidance Counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive counseling program for students that will help them better navigate their own feelings as well as appropriately engage in peer relationships/friendships and conflict resolution by consulting with teachers, parents, and staff. All employees are expected to support the mission and value statements of Courage and contribute to the overall life of the School. 

 EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Masters degree in counseling, guidance, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong, empathetic relationships with students and their families
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents and community
  • Demonstrated competency with relevant software programs
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively guide teachers through a variety of student skills, student behavior, and student development processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement the school’s Guidance curriculum and provide Character Education classes weekly to students.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups of children toward social and emotional growth
  • Consult with and train teachers, parents and staff regarding children’s needs
  • -Refer children needing more targeted support, and their parents, to special programs, specialists and outside agencies as needed
  • Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school
  • Participate in and facilitate the Courage team process
  • Plan and evaluate the counseling program

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively guide teachers through a variety of  student skills, student behavior and student development processes
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse group of professionals around a clear goal.

This is a full-time position (Monday through Friday; 7:30 am – 4:00 pm) with benefits.  Salary is dependent upon education, training, and experience and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area.
